Web design in Whalley
I'm a web designer and developer based in Burnley, a short drive from the Ribble Valley. I build fast, hand-coded websites for Whalley businesses — the kind that make the most of the people coming through the village, not just sit there looking smart.
Getting found in Whalley
A village that draws people in
Whalley is a small village, but it pulls a crowd. People come in from across the Ribble Valley and beyond for the shops, the cafés and the pubs, and a good few of them are deciding where to go on their phone before they've even parked. The Abbey and the viaduct bring the day visitors; the village itself keeps them there a while.
That's where a website earns its keep. Someone searching "places to eat in Whalley" or "gift shop near Clitheroe" wants to find you, see what you offer and know how to get there — all in a few seconds. If your site does that, you catch the trade. If it's slow or fiddly, they scroll past to whoever's easier.
I build sites for that exact moment. Not forty pages nobody reads, but a clear, quick site that shows people what you do and makes getting in touch or finding the door the obvious next step.
Why local helps
Someone you can actually get hold of
A lot of websites get built by agencies a long way off, or through some online portal where you never speak to the person doing the work. It can turn out fine, but you often wait days for a reply and end up with a site that could be for anywhere.
I'm in Burnley, a short drive from the village. If you'd rather sit down with a coffee and go through it properly, that's easy enough to sort. And if you'd sooner keep it to the phone and email, no problem — that's how most of my work runs anyway.
- You deal with me — No account manager, no ticket queue, no call centre. Email me and you get me, and I reply.
- I know the area — I understand the visitor a Whalley shop or café is after, and the surrounding villages — Clitheroe, Billington, Langho, Sabden — you want work coming from too.
- Straight answers — If a feature isn't worth paying for, I'll tell you. I'd rather give honest advice than sell you pages you'll never use.
- Easy to reach — A quick question after the site is live does not become a support ticket. You just call or message me.
How I build
Built for a village that pulls visitors
I write every site by hand. I don't use drag-and-drop tools like Wix, and I don't lean on a WordPress theme propped up by a stack of plugins that bog it down and fall over the moment one of them updates. I work in Laravel, the framework a lot of bigger firms trust, and that keeps a site fast, secure and simple to add to down the line.
The phone comes first when I design. Most people visiting Whalley will pull your site up on a mobile while they're out and about, so I get it right on that small screen and then build out from there. Pages load without the wait, the writing stays clear, and the buttons that matter — call, directions, book a table — are never buried.
Search gets thought about from the start, not bolted on later. I set each page up so Google can work out what you do and that you're in the Ribble Valley, which is what gives you a fair shot at the "near me" searches around the village. There's no trick to it, and it isn't instant, but it's done properly.
Who it's for
The businesses I tend to help
Whalley is full of the kind of business I like building for — independent shops, cafés and food spots that live on footfall, alongside the trades looking after the surrounding villages. A few of the ones I work with most:
Cafés & coffee shops
Opening times, a clear menu and an easy map, so a passing visitor can decide on you before they reach the door.
Boutiques & gift shops
A site that shows off the stock and the look of the place, and gives people a reason to make the trip into the village.
Restaurants & pubs
A readable menu, a booking button that works on a phone, and directions that get people parked and seated.
Food & drink producers
Farm shops, delis and small producers who want their range and their story laid out properly online.
Local trades
Plumbers, electricians, builders and joiners serving Whalley and the villages around it, who need the phone to ring.
Salons & wellbeing
Hair, beauty and treatment rooms that want a smart shopfront online with the prices clear and booking a tap away.
Recent work
A few sites I've built lately
None of these are in Whalley, I'll be honest, but they're the same sort of small, local business that lives on people finding them — and the approach carries over just the same. Have a look at the live sites:
Plumbing & Heating · Burnley
SK Plumbing
A straightforward site for a local plumbing and heating firm. Emergency call-out and free-quote buttons kept up front, with WhatsApp for the quick questions.

HK Heating & Plumbing
A site built to bring in enquiries for a Gas Safe registered engineer, set up around local search so it turns up across the North West. Boiler fits, servicing and repairs spelled out plainly.
Visit the siteCar Detailing · Lancashire
BH Detailing
A mobile car detailing service covering Lancashire. The site shows the standard of the work and lets people book in with a quick call or a couple of taps over WhatsApp.

Questions
Web design in Whalley — the common questions
How much does a website cost for a Whalley business?
It comes down to the size of the site and what you need it to do. A neat site for a shop, café or small trade usually starts in the low hundreds, and the price rises if you want extras like online booking or a long list of pages. Either way I work out a fixed price up front and put it in writing before I start, so there are no surprises.
Do I need to be in Whalley to work with you?
No. I'm in Burnley, a short drive over, so I'm happy to meet up if you'd sooner talk it through face to face. Most of the work, though, happens over the phone, by email and through a preview link I send you, so there are plenty of clients I've built sites for without ever needing to meet in person.
Can you help my Whalley business show up on Google?
That's a big reason people get in touch. I build every site so Google can see what you do and that you're based in or around Whalley, which gives you a proper chance of appearing when someone in the village or passing through searches for it. I can't promise the top spot by next week, but the foundations are right from the off.
Will the site work properly on a phone?
Yes, and I build for the phone before anything else. A lot of your visitors will be standing on King Street looking for somewhere to eat or a shop to pop into, so the site is designed for a small screen first and then opened out for laptops. It loads quickly and the call and directions buttons sit where a thumb can reach them.
Can you redesign the website I already have?
Usually, yes. If your current site is slow, looks dated or simply isn't bringing anyone through the door, I can rebuild it. Where it makes sense I'll keep the pages that are already pulling visitors in from Google, so you don't slip backwards while we put it right.
Do you look after the site once it goes live?
Only if you'd like me to. Some people are happy to take it on from launch day, others would rather I handle the updates, backups and the occasional change as things move on. There's an optional monthly arrangement for that, and no long contract tying you in.
Thinking about a website for your Whalley business?
Tell me what you've got in mind and I'll come back with a clear, fixed quote. No pressure, and no jargon.
