Web design in Morecambe

I'm a web designer and developer based in Burnley, over to the south. I build fast, hand-coded websites for Morecambe businesses — the sort that bring in enquiries rather than just sitting there looking the part.

Getting found in Morecambe

Ready for more people looking

Morecambe has had a fair bit of attention lately, and with the Eden Project North in the pipeline there's a good chance of more visitors finding their way to the bay. That's no guarantee of anything, but it does make now a sensible time to get a website in place that's ready for it, rather than scrambling once it's busier.

Whether it's a holidaymaker checking where to eat near the prom or a local looking for a tradesperson, the first move is the same — they reach for their phone and search. A website's job is to be there at that moment and make getting in touch the easy thing to do. That's what I build. Not a brochure nobody opens, but a site that works for you while you're busy with a customer.

I've built sites for service businesses across Lancashire and beyond, so I have a fair idea what a small business actually needs from one. Usually that's the phone ringing more often — not thirty pages of waffle nobody reads.

Why local helps

Working with someone you can reach

A lot of websites get put together by agencies miles away, or through a portal where you never actually speak to the person doing the work. It can turn out fine, but it often means slow replies and a site that could just as easily be for any town in the country.

I'm in Burnley, a manageable drive from the coast. If you'd sooner sit down and talk it through over a brew, we can. And if you'd rather keep it all to the phone and email, that suits me too — most projects run that way from start to finish.

  • You deal with me — No account manager, no ticket queue, no call centre. When you email, you get me, and I reply.
  • I know the area — I understand the mix of trade in Morecambe — seasonal visitors one side, year-round locals the other — and the nearby spots like Lancaster, Heysham and Carnforth you may want work from too.
  • Straight answers — If a feature isn't worth paying for, I'll tell you. I'd sooner give you honest advice than sell you pages you'll never use.
  • Easy to reach — A quick question after launch does not turn into a support ticket. You can just call or message me.

How I build

Built to handle a busy season

Every site I make is coded by hand. I don't use drag-and-drop builders like Wix, and I steer clear of WordPress themes propped up by a stack of plugins that slow things down and tend to break when one of them updates. I work in Laravel, the same framework plenty of bigger companies depend on, which keeps a site quick, secure and easy to change down the line.

The phone comes first when I design, since that's where nearly everyone in Morecambe will land on you. The pages load fast, read clearly, and steer people toward the one thing that counts — calling, messaging, or filling in a short form. Nothing cluttering it up, nothing pointless to scroll past.

Search gets thought about from the off as well. I lay each page out so Google can work out what you do and the area you cover, which gives you a fair crack at appearing for the "near me" searches around the town and the bay. It isn't magic and it isn't overnight, but it's set up correctly from day one.

Who it's for

The businesses I tend to help

Most of my work is with small, local businesses that live on people finding them and trusting them online. In a seaside town that means a bit of both — places that get busier with the visitors, and trades that tick along all year. A few of the sorts I build for regularly:

Cafes, bars & restaurants

A clear menu, simple directions to the door, and a booking or order button that actually works on a phone.

Guest houses & B&Bs

A welcoming site that shows the rooms off, lists the rates plainly, and makes checking dates and booking easy.

Trades

Plumbers, heating engineers, electricians, builders and joiners who live or die by the phone ringing.

Garages & car services

MOTs, repairs, detailing — sites that show the standard of work and make it simple to book in.

Salons & barbers

A smart shopfront online that shows off the look, lists the prices, and puts the booking link where people can find it.

Visitor & leisure

Attractions, tours and the like that need clear opening times, prices and a site that works when someone is standing on the prom.

Recent work

A few sites I've built lately

None of these are in Morecambe itself, but they're the same kind of small, service-led local business — and the same approach carries over here just as well. Have a look at the live sites:

How it goes

From first chat to live site

01

Have a chat

Tell me about the business and what you'd like the site to do. It costs nothing and there's no hard sell.

02

Fixed quote

You get a clear price and an honest timeline, both in writing, before any work begins.

03

Design & build

I build it and keep you posted as it comes together, so nothing lands as a surprise at the end.

04

Go live

I sort the launch, test it on real phones, and from there you can leave the upkeep to me if you like.

Questions

Web design in Morecambe — the common questions

How much does a website cost for a Morecambe business?

It comes down to the size of the site and what you need it to do. A neat site for a small trade, shop or guest house usually starts in the low hundreds, and climbs from there if you want extras like online booking or a lot of pages. I price every job up front, so you have a fixed figure in writing before I begin.

Do I need to be in Morecambe to work with you?

No. I'm based in Burnley, which is a straightforward run over to the coast, so I'm happy to meet if you'd rather talk it through face to face. Most of a project runs over the phone, email and a shared preview link, though, so a fair few of my clients I never need to meet at all.

Can you help my Morecambe business show up on Google?

That's a big part of why people get in touch. I build each site so Google can tell what you do and where you do it, which gives you a real chance of turning up when someone searches for it in Morecambe or over towards Lancaster. Nobody can promise the top spot straight away, but the foundations are there from the start.

Will the site work properly on a phone?

Yes, and I build it that way first. A visitor walking the prom or a local looking you up will almost always be on their phone, so the site is designed for a small screen before anything else, then scaled up for laptops. It loads quickly and the call and message buttons sit where a thumb can reach them.

Can you redesign the website I already have?

Usually, yes. If your current site is slow, looking dated, or just not bringing in enquiries, I can rebuild it. Where it makes sense I'll keep the pages that are already earning their keep on Google, so you don't lose any ground while we put it right.

Do you look after the site once it goes live?

Only if you want me to. Some clients are happy to take it from launch, others would sooner I handle the updates, backups and the odd change as things move on — and seasonal businesses often like a hand tweaking opening times before the summer. There's an optional monthly arrangement for that, with no long tie-in.
