Web design in Leyland

I'm a web designer and developer over in Burnley, building fast, hand-coded websites for Leyland businesses. The aim is simple — a site a customer can find in a couple of taps, and one that brings you work rather than just sitting there.

Getting found in Leyland

Getting found around Leyland

Leyland is a working town with a long history of making things — the Leyland Motors name still rolls down the road on the side of a lorry. These days it's mostly homes and people who commute, with the usual mix of local trades, shops and services keeping the place ticking. Plenty of them are after the same handful of customers.

When someone in Leyland wants a plumber, a haircut or a car looking at, the first thing they do is get their phone out and search. The business that turns up, and loads without them waiting, is the one that gets the call. A website's job is to be there at that moment and make getting in touch the obvious next step.

That's the kind of site I build — not a brochure that sits quietly doing nothing, but something that works for you while you're out on a job or serving a customer. I've built for service businesses across Lancashire, so I've a good idea of what a small firm actually needs from a website, which is usually the phone ringing more, not pages nobody reads.

Why local helps

Working with one person, not a portal

A lot of websites get put together by an agency hundreds of miles off, or through a sign-up form where you never actually speak to the person doing the work. It can turn out fine, but you tend to get slow replies and a site that would suit any town anywhere.

I'm in Burnley, a run across the county. If you'd sooner sit down and go through it over a brew, we can do that. And if you'd rather keep the whole thing to phone and email, that suits me just as well — most jobs run that way without a hitch.

  • You deal with me — No account manager, no ticket system, no call centre. Email me and it's me who reads it and me who replies.
  • I know the patch — I understand the sort of customer a Leyland trade or shop is chasing, and the towns next door — Chorley, Preston, Bamber Bridge, Penwortham — you probably want work from too.
  • Straight answers — If a feature isn't worth paying for, I'll tell you. I'd sooner give you an honest steer than sell you pages you'll never use.
  • Easy to get hold of — A quick question after launch is just a call or a message. It doesn't turn into a support ticket and a three-day wait.

How I build

Coded to load fast and last

I write every site by hand. There's no Wix or drag-and-drop builder behind it, and no WordPress theme weighed down with a dozen plugins that drag the speed down and fall over the moment one of them updates. I work in Laravel, the same framework plenty of bigger outfits run on, which keeps a site quick, secure and easy to change down the line.

The phone comes first when I'm designing, since that's how most people in Leyland will land on you. Pages load quickly, read without effort, and nudge people towards the one thing that counts — ringing you, messaging you or filling in a short form. Nothing cluttering the way, nothing to wade past.

Search gets sorted from the start rather than bolted on later. I lay each page out so Google can see what you do and that you do it around Leyland, which gives you a fair crack at the "near me" searches people run. It isn't a trick and it isn't overnight, but it's done properly from day one.

Who it's for

The businesses I tend to help

Most of what I do is for small, local businesses that depend on people finding them and trusting them online. If that's you, we'll get along. A few of the trades I build for time and again:

Trades

Plumbers, heating engineers, electricians, builders and joiners — the lot of them live by the phone ringing.

Takeaways & restaurants

A menu people can actually read, directions that make sense, and an order or booking button that behaves on a phone.

Driving schools & instructors

Steady, reassuring sites with the prices set out plainly and booking only a tap away.

Garages & car services

MOTs, repairs, detailing — sites that show the standard of the work and make booking in straightforward.

Salons & barbers

A smart shopfront online that shows off the work, lists what it costs, and puts the booking link where people will spot it.

Professional services

Accountants, consultants and the like who want a site that looks established and earns a bit of trust.

Recent work

A few sites I've built lately

None of these are in Leyland as it happens, but they're the same kind of local, service-led business, and the same approach carries over fine. Take a look at the live sites:

How it goes

From first chat to live site

01

Have a chat

Tell me about the business and what you'd like the site to do. It costs nothing and there's no hard sell.

02

Fixed quote

You get a plain price and a sensible timeline in writing before I touch a thing.

03

Design & build

I build it and keep showing you where it's up to, so the finished site is never a surprise.

04

Go live

I take care of the launch, test it on real phones, and look after it from there if you want me to.

Questions

Web design in Leyland — the common questions

How much does a website cost for a Leyland business?

It comes down to how big the site is and what you need it to do. A neat site for a small trade or shop usually starts in the low hundreds, and the price climbs from there if you want extras like online booking or a stack of pages. I price every job up front, so you'll have a fixed figure in writing before I start.

Do I have to be in Leyland to work with you?

Not at all. I'm in Burnley, a run across the county on the M65 and down the M6, so I can meet up if you'd rather talk it over face to face. Most of a project happens over the phone, email and a preview link though, so a lot of the businesses I build for I never need to sit down with.

Can you get my Leyland business showing on Google?

That's usually why people get in touch. I build each site so Google can work out what you do and that you do it around Leyland, which gives you a genuine chance of turning up when someone nearby searches. I won't promise you the top spot by next week, but the foundations are right from the off.

Will it work properly on a phone?

Yes, and that's where I start. Most people in Leyland will find you on their phone, so I build the site for a small screen first and then scale it up for laptops. It loads fast and the call and message buttons sit where a thumb can reach them.

Can you redo the website I already have?

Usually, yes. If your current site is slow, looks dated, or just isn't bringing the work in, I can rebuild it. Where it's worth doing I'll keep hold of the pages that are already earning their keep on Google, so you don't slip backwards while we put it right.

Do you keep an eye on the site after it goes live?

If that's what you want. Some people are happy to run it themselves once it's live; others would rather I handle the updates, backups and the odd change as things move on. There's an optional monthly arrangement for that, and you're not tied in for the long haul.

Thinking about a website for your Leyland business?

Tell me what you're after and I'll come back with a clear, fixed quote. No pressure, and none of the jargon.
