Web design in Great Harwood
I'm a web designer and developer based in Burnley, a short hop from Great Harwood. The independents here deserve a website that does them justice — simple, quick on a phone, and easy for a customer to act on.
Getting found in Great Harwood
Getting found in a small town
Great Harwood is a small town with a proper town centre — the market, the clock tower on Towngate, and a good run of independent shops and trades that have been part of the place for years. People here still like to use someone local. The thing is, before they pick up the phone, they nearly always have a look online first.
When somebody wants a plumber, a haircut or a bite to eat, they reach for their phone and search. The businesses that come up, and that load without a wait, are the ones that get the call. A website's real job is to be there at that moment and make getting in touch the obvious next step.
That's what I build. Not a brochure that nobody opens twice, but a site that earns its keep while you're busy on a job or serving a customer. I've built plenty for small service businesses around East Lancashire, so I know what one actually needs to do — and it's usually the phone ringing more, not forty pages nobody reads.
Why local helps
Working with someone close by
A lot of websites get put together by an agency the other end of the country, or through a portal where you never actually speak to whoever's doing the work. It can turn out fine, but it often means slow replies and a site that could just as easily belong to a business in any town anywhere.
I'm in Burnley, a few minutes from Great Harwood. If you'd rather sit down and talk it through over a brew, we can do that. And if you'd sooner keep the whole thing on the phone and by email, that suits me as well — most projects run that way without a hitch.
- You deal with me — No account manager, no ticket system, no call centre. Email me and it lands with me, and I answer it.
- I know the area — I understand the sort of customer a Great Harwood shop or trade wants, and the nearby towns like Rishton, Clayton-le-Moors, Accrington and Blackburn you probably want work from too.
- Straight answers — If something isn't worth paying for, I'll tell you. I'd rather give you an honest steer than sell you pages you've no use for.
- Easy to reach — A quick question after the site is live does not become a support ticket. You just call or message me and I sort it.
How I build
Simple, quick, and easy to change
I write every site by hand. I don't use drag-and-drop builders like Wix, and I steer clear of a WordPress theme weighed down with a dozen plugins that drag it to a crawl and break the day one of them updates. I work in Laravel — the same framework plenty of bigger firms run on — which keeps things fast, secure, and simple to change down the line.
The phone comes first when I'm designing, because that's how most people in Great Harwood will land on you. Pages load quickly, read clearly, and lead to the one thing that counts: calling, messaging, or a short form. There's nothing cluttering the way and nothing to wade through to find your number.
Search gets thought about from the start too. I lay each page out so Google can work out what you do and where you do it, which is what earns you a fair shot at the "near me" searches around the town. It isn't a trick and it doesn't happen overnight, but it's set up correctly from day one.
Who it's for
The businesses I tend to help
Most of my work is with small, local businesses that depend on people finding them and trusting them online. If that's you, we'll get along. A few of the trades I build for regularly:
Trades
Plumbers, heating engineers, electricians, builders and joiners whose week depends on the phone ringing.
Takeaways & cafés
A clear menu, directions people can follow, and an order or booking button that actually works on a phone.
Driving instructors
Calm, reassuring sites with the prices set out plainly and booking only a tap away.
Garages & car services
MOTs, repairs, valeting — sites that show the standard of the work and make it easy to book in.
Salons & barbers
A smart shopfront online that shows off the look, lists the prices, and puts the booking link where people will find it.
Professional services
Accountants, consultants and the like who want a site that looks settled and earns a bit of trust.
Recent work
A few sites I've built lately
None of these are in Great Harwood, but they're the same kind of small, service-led business you'd find on any high street round here — and the same approach works just as well in town. Take a look at the live sites:

Questions
Web design in Great Harwood — the common questions
What does a website cost for a Great Harwood business?
It comes down to how big the site is and what you need it to do. A neat site for a shop on Towngate or a one-man trade usually starts in the low hundreds, and the price climbs if you want extras like a booking form or a stack of pages. Either way I work out a fixed price first and put it in writing, so there are no surprises later.
Do I have to be in Great Harwood to hire you?
Not at all. I'm just down the road in Burnley, so if you'd sooner meet up and go through it face to face, that's easy enough to arrange. In practice though, most jobs run perfectly well over the phone, email and a preview link I send you, so a fair few of my clients I never need to meet in person.
Can you get my Great Harwood business onto Google?
It's one of the main reasons people get in touch. I build each site so Google understands what you do and that you do it around Great Harwood and Hyndburn, which gives you a proper chance of coming up when a local searches. I won't pretend you'll be top by Friday, but the foundations are right from the off.
Will it work properly on a phone?
Yes, and that's where I start. Most people who find you will be on their phone, walking through the market or sat at home, so I design for the small screen first and then scale it up for laptops. It loads quickly, and the call and message buttons sit where a thumb can reach them.
Can you sort out the website I already have?
Usually, yes. If what you've got is slow, looks dated, or just isn't bringing the enquiries in, I can rebuild it from scratch. Where it's worth it I'll hold on to the pages that are already doing well on Google, so you don't slip back while I'm putting the new one together.
Do you keep an eye on the site after it launches?
If that's what you want. Some people are happy to run it themselves once it's live, others would rather I handle the updates, backups and the odd change as things move on. There's a small monthly arrangement for that if you need it, and you're not locked into a long contract.

Tell me what you're after and I'll come back with a clear, fixed quote. No pressure, and no jargon.
