Web design in Clitheroe
I'm a web designer and developer based a short drive away in Burnley. I build fast, hand-coded websites for Clitheroe and Ribble Valley businesses — sites that bring people through the door, not just sit there looking smart.
Getting found in Clitheroe
Where the visitors look first
Clitheroe does well out of its visitors. The Ribble Valley draws day-trippers in for the castle, the food and drink and an independent high street that's worth the trip on its own — and a lot of those people have money to spend. Before they set off, or once they're parked up and wondering where to eat, they go straight to their phone and search.
That's the moment a website earns its keep. It needs to be there when someone looks you up, load without the wait, and make booking a table or picking up the phone the obvious next step. That's the sort of site I build — not a brochure nobody opens, but something that's working for you while you're serving customers.
I've built sites for businesses across East Lancashire and beyond, so I've a good feel for what a small business actually wants from one. Most of the time it's simple enough: more enquiries, more bookings, fewer people drifting off to a competitor who turned up first.
Why local helps
Working with someone who knows the valley
A lot of websites are put together by agencies hundreds of miles away, or through some online portal where you never actually speak to whoever's doing the work. It can turn out fine, but you often wait days for a reply and end up with a site that could just as easily belong to a business in any town anywhere.
I'm in Burnley, so the Ribble Valley is close to home for me. If you'd rather sit down over a coffee and go through it properly, that's easy enough to arrange. And if you'd sooner keep the whole thing to phone and email, that suits me just as well — most projects run that way.
- You deal with me — No account manager, no ticket system, no call centre. Email the business and it lands with me, and I answer it myself.
- I know the area — I understand the kind of customer a Clitheroe shop or trade is after, and the villages round about — Whalley, Sabden, Longridge, Ribchester — you probably want work from as well.
- Straight answers — If something isn't worth paying for, I'll tell you. I'd rather give you an honest steer than talk you into pages you'll never use.
- Easy to reach — A quick question after the site is live does not become a support ticket. You just call or message me and I sort it.
How I build
Hand-built and easy to look after
I write every site by hand. There's no Wix, no Squarespace, and no WordPress theme weighed down with a stack of plugins that drag it to a crawl and fall over the moment one of them updates. I work in Laravel — the same framework plenty of bigger firms run on — which keeps a site fast, secure and easy to change down the line.
The phone comes first when I design, because that's where nearly everyone in Clitheroe is going to find you. Pages load quickly, read clearly and lead people towards the one thing that counts, whether that's calling, messaging or filling in a short form. Nothing cluttering it up, nothing to scroll past to get there.
Search is built in from the off, not bolted on afterwards. I set each page up so Google can tell what you do and that you do it around the Ribble Valley, which is what gives you a fair shot at those "near me" searches. It isn't a trick and it isn't overnight, but it's done properly from the start.
Who it's for
The businesses I tend to help
Most of my work is with small, local outfits that depend on people finding them and trusting them online — the independents that give Clitheroe its character, and the trades quietly keeping the valley running. A few of the sorts I build for:
Cafés & restaurants
A menu that reads well, clear directions and parking, and a booking button that actually works on a phone.
Delis & food shops
The independents that pull people off the high street — somewhere to show the range and the story behind it.
Pubs & places to stay
Sites that tempt the day-trippers in, list what's on, and make a table or a room simple to book.
Trades & home services
Plumbers, electricians, builders, joiners and gardeners working across the valley villages, where the phone ringing is the whole point.
Salons & barbers
A smart shopfront online that shows the work, lists the prices, and puts the booking link somewhere people can find it.
Professional services
Accountants, consultants and the like who need a site that looks settled and earns a bit of trust.
Recent work
A few sites I've built lately
None of these are in Clitheroe as it happens, but they're the same kind of local, service-led business, and the approach carries over just the same. Have a look at the live sites:
Plumbing & Heating · Burnley
SK Plumbing
A straightforward site for a local plumbing and heating firm. The emergency call-out and free-quote buttons stay front and centre, with WhatsApp on hand for the smaller jobs.
Visit the siteGas Safe Engineer · North West
HK Heating & Plumbing
A site built to bring in leads for a Gas Safe registered engineer, set up around local search so it surfaces across the North West. Boiler installs, servicing and repairs all spelled out plainly.
Visit the siteCar Detailing · Lancashire
BH Detailing
A mobile car detailing service covering Lancashire. The site puts the quality of the work on show and lets people book in with a couple of taps over WhatsApp or a quick call.

01
A quick chat
Tell me about the business and what you want the site to do for it. No charge, and no hard sell at the end of it.
02
A fixed price
You get a clear figure and a sensible timeline in writing, and nothing starts until you're happy with both.
03
Design & build
I build the site and show you how it's coming along as I go, so there are no surprises waiting at the end.
04
Go live
I see to the launch, check it over on real phones, and look after it from there if you want me to.
Questions
Web design in Clitheroe — the common questions
How much does a website cost for a Clitheroe business?
It comes down to how big the site is and what you need it to do. A neat site for a café, a small shop or a sole trader usually starts in the low hundreds, and the price climbs from there if you want extras like a booking system or a longer list of pages. Either way I work the figure out properly first and put a fixed price in writing before I touch anything.
Do I have to be in Clitheroe to work with you?
Not at all. I'm in Burnley, which is a short run over towards the Ribble Valley, so if you'd sooner meet up and talk it through face to face we can sort that. In practice most of a project happens over the phone, by email and through a preview link I send you, so a fair few clients I never end up meeting in person.
Can you help my Clitheroe business show up on Google?
It's one of the main reasons people get in touch. I build every site so Google can work out what you do and that you do it around Clitheroe and the Ribble Valley, which gives you a proper chance of appearing when someone nearby searches. I can't promise the top result by next week, but the foundations are laid from the first day.
Will the site work well on a phone?
Yes, and that comes first, not last. A visitor wandering the high street or a local looking you up will nearly always be on their phone, so I design for the small screen before I think about laptops. It loads quickly and the call and message buttons sit where a thumb can reach them.
Can you redo the website I already have?
Usually, yes. If your current site is slow, looks dated or simply isn't bringing in enquiries, I can rebuild it from scratch. Where it's worth it I'll hang on to the pages that already pull traffic from Google, so you don't slip backwards while the new one takes shape.
Do you keep an eye on the site after it goes live?
Only if you'd like me to. Some people are happy to run it themselves once it's launched, others would rather I take care of the updates, backups and the odd change as the business grows. There's an optional monthly arrangement for that, and you're not tied in for the long haul.
Thinking about a website for your Clitheroe business?
Tell me what you're after and I'll come back with a clear, fixed price. No pressure, and no jargon.
